Everton 1-0 Ipswich Town
Thierno Barry’s 11th-minute goal proved decisive as Everton edged Ipswich Town 1-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium, holding firm through a tense second half to secure all three Premier League points.
In front of 52,008 supporters in Liverpool, Everton made their early pressure count. Barry found the breakthrough in the 11th minute, finishing the move to give the home side the lead and a platform from which to control much of the fixture.
The Toffees carried the greater attacking threat across the match, registering 21 shots and 16 shot assists while edging possession 51.8% to 48.2%. However, Ipswich remained alive in the contest, producing 13 attempts and testing Everton’s goalkeeper four times.
The visitors’ task became substantially tougher in the 67th minute when Fatawu Issahaku was sent off. Issahaku had already been booked in the 35th minute, and Ipswich were forced to negotiate the final stages with 10 men as Everton sought a second goal.
Despite their numerical advantage, Everton could not add to Barry’s opener. Ipswich defended doggedly and continued to pose a threat, while the hosts had to manage a nervy nine minutes of stoppage time before the final whistle confirmed the narrow victory.
Vitaliy Mykolenko was booked for Everton in the 42nd minute, while Zian Flemming saw yellow for Ipswich in the 90th minute. Harrison Armstrong was also cautioned deep into added time for the hosts.
The result leaves Everton with a 2-3-0 league record, while Ipswich fall to 2-0-3. Everton next face Hull City on October 11, while Ipswich return to action against Fulham on October 10.
