Nashville SC continued their strong early-season form on Saturday night, earning a 2-1 road victory over Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium in Major League Soccer.
The visitors were the sharper side for long stretches and made that edge count through Edvard Tagseth, who opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Patrick Yazbek, who doubled the advantage in the 62nd. Charlotte FC threatened a late rescue when Archie Goodwin converted a penalty in the 90th minute, but Nashville saw out the remaining stoppage time to secure all three points.
There was little need for Nashville to feel their way into the fixture. With more of the ball and a cleaner rhythm in possession, the away side established control early and found the breakthrough when Tagseth struck in the 14th minute. That opening goal gave Nashville exactly the kind of platform they wanted on the road, allowing them to manage the tempo and force Charlotte to chase.
Charlotte struggled to generate sustained pressure in the first half, and the 1-0 scoreline at the interval felt a fair reflection of the contest. Nashville had looked more composed in midfield and more purposeful in the final third, while Charlotte found clear chances harder to come by.
The pattern did not change dramatically after the restart. Charlotte searched for a way back, but Nashville remained organized and dangerous enough to keep the hosts uneasy. The key second goal arrived in the 62nd minute when Yazbek found the net to make it 2-0, a deserved reward for another confident Nashville passage of play.
At that point, the match appeared to be slipping fully away from Charlotte. Nashville finished with 54.7 percent possession, outshot the hosts 11-8, and put 6 efforts on target to Charlotte’s 3. Those numbers underlined the visitors’ control, even if the contest remained close enough to leave the door slightly open.
Charlotte finally found that opening right at the death. In the 90th minute, Goodwin stepped up and converted from the penalty spot to cut the deficit to 2-1, injecting tension into a match that had looked settled. The home side pushed for one last moment in a lengthy period of stoppage time, but Nashville held firm under the late pressure.
There was also a combative edge to Nashville’s display, with Alex Muyl shown a yellow card in the 35th minute, Daniel Lovitz booked in the 64th, and Hany Mukhtar cautioned in stoppage time. Even so, the visitors managed the closing stages well enough to avoid letting their lead disappear.
For Charlotte, the late penalty from Goodwin in the 90th minute gave the scoreline a more respectable look and briefly raised hopes of a dramatic point, but the hosts never fully matched Nashville’s consistency across the 90 minutes. For Nashville, this was a mature away performance: efficient in both boxes, solid in midfield, and ultimately worthy of the result.
By full time, Nashville SC had turned a strong underlying display into a valuable 2-1 MLS win, while Charlotte FC were left to rue a slow start and too much ground to make up after falling two goals behind.
