Minnesota United FC left Carson with all three points on Saturday night, beating LA Galaxy 2-1 in a lively Major League Soccer fixture at Dignity Health Sports Park.

After a scoreless first half, the match sprang to life after the interval. Anthony Markanich opened the scoring in the 51st minute for Minnesota United, giving the visitors the breakthrough their efficient second-half display deserved.

LA Galaxy responded quickly. Marco Reus brought the hosts back level in the 57th minute, capping a spell in which the Galaxy looked ready to turn territorial control into a result. The home side finished with 58.6 percent possession, 20 total shots, seven efforts on target and nine corners, underlining how much of the ball they had across the night.

But Minnesota United proved far more clinical. Kelvin Yeboah restored the visitors’ lead in the 67th minute with what was recorded as a volley, and that decisive finish ultimately separated the sides.

The contrast between volume and efficiency told the story. LA Galaxy generated plenty, registering 14 shot assists and repeatedly pushing Minnesota back, yet the visitors made more of their moments with two goals from just four shots on target. Minnesota also showed discipline in their defensive shape, absorbing pressure for long stretches before landing the key blows after halftime.

The first half had offered hints of the combative contest to come rather than much end product. Markanich went into the book in the 44th minute, while later cautions for Morris Duggan in the 63rd minute, Elijah Wynder in the 70th minute, and then Kyle Duncan and Carlos Garcés in stoppage time reflected an increasingly tense finish as LA Galaxy chased an equaliser.

Still, Minnesota held firm through 90+9 minutes to secure an impressive away victory. For LA Galaxy, Reus’ 57th-minute goal gave them hope, but a lack of cutting edge in the decisive moments left the hosts empty-handed despite a strong statistical edge.
