Denver Summit FC produced an efficient second-half display on Wednesday night, leaving Red Bull Arena with a 2-0 victory over Gotham FC in National Women’s Soccer League action.
After a tightly contested opening 45 minutes in Harrison, New Jersey, the fixture remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the break. Gotham and Denver were evenly matched for long stretches, with possession virtually split down the middle and neither side able to fully take control of the tempo.
Gotham showed attacking intent, finishing with 11 shots and six corners, but Denver’s defensive structure held firm and limited the hosts to four shots on target. The visitors, meanwhile, were more clinical when the decisive moments arrived.
The breakthrough came in the 58th minute, when Melissa Kössler (58′) put Denver Summit FC in front and shifted the complexion of the match. Gotham were then forced to chase the result, but that opened more space for the visitors to attack in transition.
Denver capitalized again in the 73rd minute through Natasha Flint (73′), whose goal doubled the advantage and gave the away side full control of the contest. Flint had already been involved in the match’s disciplinary ledger with a yellow card in the 26th minute, but her response in open play proved decisive.
There was little between the sides statistically. Gotham edged the shot count 11-8 and corners 6-4, while possession finished at 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent in the home side’s favor. But Denver made better use of their openings, putting five shots on target and turning two of them into goals.
The match also featured a handful of bookings. Flint was cautioned for Denver in the 26th minute, while Gotham’s Lilly Reale (39′) went into the book before halftime. Denver defender Megan Reid (63′) was shown a yellow in the second half, and Gotham’s Jaelin Howell (90’+5′) was booked deep into stoppage time.
For Gotham, this was a frustrating home outing: plenty of territory, a slight edge in attacking volume, but no breakthrough. For Denver Summit FC, it was the kind of disciplined away performance managers value highly—compact without the ball, patient through the first half, and ruthless once the chances arrived.
In the end, the difference was simple and significant: Melissa Kössler (58′) and Natasha Flint (73′) turned a balanced contest into a convincing 2-0 Denver Summit FC win.
